This post is a little different from the other cute dogs you receive, and it’s not even special because this dog is no longer living, because many people do post their deceased companion.
The different thing about Davey here is that he was murdered at the Bastrop County Animal Shelter by Director Diane Mollaghan along with 6 other dogs on January 22nd, 2013 when there were 18 open kennels at the shelter.
Davey was murdered because he did not “present well in the kennel”, which was the reason for the other 6 as well. This decision was from someone who claims to be an animal behaviorist.
I hope you will post this because today the Commisioners in Bastrop County, Texas decided to let this woman keep her job despite outcry from the community not just over the death of these 7 animals but of the general negligence and incompetence shown by Diane Mollaghan and the shelter workers.
In the same decision that let Mollaghan keep her job, the county also indefinitely BANNED VOLUNTEERS from the shelter while they draw up a contract and define their “job responsibilities” most likely to prevent a community outcry like this from happening ever again, by way of never letting the truth of that terrible place escape.
It’s impossible to tell all the stories of mistreatment and abuse that these animals have suffered but I will list a few.
Animals being denied rescue by the shelter director. She refused to allow a litter of puppies to be rescued by Austin Pets Alive, because they needed puppies in stock! As if a Parvo ridden shelter is a pet store.
The cat adoption room was kept locked for almost an entire day, the cats locked inside left without food or water.
The dog kennels outside have had the doors to the runs left open all night and the (still broken) heaters were never turned on during nights the temperature dipped below freezing. Leaving 100 dogs to shiver alone and cold in their concrete cages.
The communities surrounding Bastrop are ready to fight, but it’s become obvious we need so much more help than just us.
We need awareness. We need your outrage. We need your help. Please help us fight for these animals.
You can find an adequate summary of the situation here: http://www.statesman.com/news/news/local/bastrop-animal-control-director-keeps-job-for-now/nT8t5/

Please help us get out the word by posting this. We need all the help we can get. Thank you.
